Janell Walden Agyeman is an agent with Marie Brown Associates, where she represents a diverse roster of authors who write for young readers and adults. Her clients include New York Times bestselling author Sharon M. Draper, (Out of My Mind, Stella by Starlight and Pulitzer Prize-winner Leonard M. Pitts, Jr., (Freeman, Grant Park). Previously, she held editorial positions at Doubleday and Company and at Howard University Press, where she also administered their book publishing institute. She was a contributing author to the groundbreaking project, Contributions of Black Women to America, 1777-1976. In 2013 she was named “Agent of the Year” by Black Pearls Literary Magazine. Apart from her literary work, which includes educational outreach targeting new and emerging writers, she especially enjoys her family, singing with her community’s choir and learning to grow fruits and vegetables.
